Pleased that people wanted info about the Conference 1. Feel free to make use of the comments I've posted earlier on this thread. Use Graham's text as you can. 2. We did take one or two pix, which you can request by email.

Very glad to see this was so successful and especially that a contingent came from Cranmer! Can we do a press release? Are there photos? This is the kind of thing we need to publicise Fulcrum.

Sixty people attended the first Fulcrum in the North Conference at Great Horton, Bradford, Sunday 1 June. Our host was the vicar of Great Horton, Nick Jones, and chairing proceedings was the Rev Denise Poole, chaplain to the Bishop of Bradford. A big thankyou to them and to the team that led worship. The conference drew a combination of locals plus people who travelled in from the dioceses of Durham, Wakefield, Sheffield and York  - including 12 from Cranmer Hall, Durham. In attendance too was the Bishop of Bradford and the Rt Rev Clive Handford, former President Bishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East who is a member of the Windsor Continuation Groups, due to meet shortly. The address from Graham Kings will be posted soon on the Fulcrum website and a shortened version will be published in the Church of England Newspaper on Friday 13 June. Following Graham's presentation there was lively discussion that continued for an hour.   There was appreciation of the point that a lot of the current Anglican crisis had grown from the fact that many felt their voices were not heard or given due weight. Those who do not have English as their first language often remain on the outer because they don't always pick up the nuances of particular points. How the Anglican Communion should adjust to a post-colonial world still invites many questions. There's a need to continue to work and pray over the issue of human sexuality. Evangelicals need to work harder on issues that divide them and draw more people into discussion. How evangelicals are to approach the interpretion of Scripture remains a on-going point for clarification and debate. It seemed to me that there's a lot of potential events like this throughout the country and I'd be glad to hear from people who might be interested in making something happen in their local patch. 3 June 2008

Any report?

Looking forward to seeing some of you at Fulcrum in the North, at Great Horton, Bradford this coming Sunday evening.  I'll be speaking on 'Lambeth 2008: Reading and Reshaping the Anglican Communion'. There will be plenty of time for discussion. David James, Bishop of Bradford, Clive Handford, chair of the Windsor Continuation Group and former Presiding Bishop in Jerusalem and the Middle East, and Anne Dyer, Principal of Cranmer Hall, Durham, will be there. Do join us.

Thanks, Kevin - a helpful suggestion for our planning.

I appreciate what you say about diaries and short notice - but an evening does rather give the impression that having something in the North is an after thought. I would hazard a guess that a Fulcrum event in London would not be planned a short notice. I am glad Fulcrum is coming - but wonder whether the key note event for Fulcrum could be in the North in 2009 or 2010? Kevin

Thanks for that, Nick.  There's so much to think of when organizing a conference like this. I am glad your church is so commited to 'Christ's option for the poor.'

Those directions are standard on the St John's, Great Horton website. The directions include the words "If you are coming by car". So they do not make the assumption that a Christian disciple will be travelling by car. (Ken Sawyer).  But Ken,  no other directions were given originally, for other forms of transport including, public transport. As a non-car driver who has no inisde knowledge of the county, let alone Bradford, I felt at a loss, to know how to procede. (Now rectified I understand).   May urge people here to consider Bible teaching on global warming and the environment, and to (re-) consider their practice in the light of this ? - It's no use leaving it to someone else to take responsibility for the planet. And Scripture is very clear.

Public transport directions for Fulcrum in the North have now been added to the webpage.  Thank you to those who commented and spotted this omission for which I apologise.  St John's is actually on the cusp of inner city Bradford in a deprived district of a wonderful, but struggling city.  We thought it would be breaking the 'Middle Class Evangelical' mould to host the conference here.  Nick Jones (Conference Organising Committee)

Re the conference directions section - May I ask, Are those who use public transport not expected, not welcome or simply not catered for ? It speaks volumes to me of the middle class assumptions of affluent Evangelicals, and the reduced assumptive and experienced world.  Jesus would be excluded by these directions too - so what of the least of his siblings ?

Thank you very much for organising this. I am sorry I shall not be able to be there. It is the end of the half term week and we will be travelling back from my nephew's baptism in London that day. James

Thanks, Kevin. Looking forward to seeing you at the conference. An evening was arranged as the best way of fitting in with various diaries at this short notice.

Great! I have booked myself in. Is there any reason why you have gone for an evening rather than for a full day? Kevin

We have just published details of our 'Fulcrum in the North Conference', which will be on Sunday 1 June 2008, 6.30pm-8.30pm at St John's Church, Great Horton, just outside Bradford.  It is being organised by Nick Jones, vicar of St John's, and the theme is 'Lambeth 2008: Crucial for the Anglican Communion'. I have been invited to speak and David James, the Bishop of Bradford will be present. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion. Further details on directions and online booking, available here.

Women Bishops: Church in all its Fullness posted by Bowman

Daniel's exegetical outline below makes more sense of Ephesians 5:21-23 than anything else I've seen posted here. The proposed rings make obvious intuitive sense, though I am still pondering the question what algorithm, if any, could (dis)confirm these intuitions. The rings lead one to see intimacy ...

The meaning of kephale in scripture posted by Bowman

Daniel-- I was hoping for new light on kephale, but did not expect it so soon! Your "B" ring lends support to the view of Secret Villager 4976 below who sees St Paul emphasising the unity of head and body in Ephesians 5. And as I myself note below, the coinherence of the members of the pairs {God : ...

I understand what you are saying Dave. On the issue of Bishops having day jobs, and the time constraints on attending debates, I wonder with my admitted lack of experience whether there is not a way in which a better rotation system can be worked. But also a lot of valuable people who are fully trai...
